WALKING BY FAITH, NOT BY SIGHT: NOVEMBER 2, 2026 DEVOTIONAL

BIBLE TEXT: 2 CORINTHIANS 5:6–10 (KJV)

6 Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord:

7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:)

8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

9 Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him.

10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

EXHORTATION

KEY VERSE:

“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” — 2 Corinthians 5:7 (KJV)

Welcome to a new day, and welcome to November 2, 2026. Yesterday, we were encouraged through the devotional “Trusting God When It’s Hard” to remain confident in God even when circumstances are difficult. Today, we are reminded that this trust must become our daily way of living. Walking by faith means learning to follow God’s Word and direction even when we cannot see the entire road ahead.

Fanny Crosby, the famous American hymn writer, lost her sight when she was an infant. Despite this physical limitation, she became a teacher, poet, and prolific hymn writer whose songs have encouraged millions of Christians. Rather than allowing blindness to define the limits of her life, she continued to serve God with the abilities and opportunities available to her. Her story reminds us that what we cannot see or possess does not have to prevent us from living meaningfully by faith.

The words of Paul in 2 Corinthians 5:7 are simple but profound: “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” Paul was not suggesting that Christians should ignore reality, refuse to think carefully, or act recklessly. Faith is not pretending that problems do not exist. It is trusting God’s character, promises, and wisdom even when circumstances seem uncertain or discouraging.

Sight often focuses on what is immediately visible. We see the financial challenge, the unanswered prayer, the delay, the opposition, or the weakness in our lives. These things may be real, but they are not the whole story. God sees beyond our present circumstances. He knows the beginning and the end, and His understanding is greater than ours. Faith enables us to acknowledge what is happening without allowing it to become the final authority over our lives.

Abraham provides a powerful example of this kind of faith. God called him to leave his country and family and go to a land He would show him. Abraham did not receive a complete map of the journey before he began. Hebrews 11:8 tells us that he obeyed and went out, “not knowing whither he went.” His obedience was not based on having every detail settled; it was based on trusting the One who had called him.

Many times, God leads us in a similar way. We may not know how a situation will end, when a promise will be fulfilled, or what opportunities tomorrow will bring. We may be required to make decisions without knowing every possible outcome. However, when our steps are guided by Scripture, prayer, godly counsel, and the leading of the Holy Spirit, we can move forward with confidence in God.

Walking by faith does not mean abandoning responsibility. A person who trusts God should still plan wisely, work diligently, seek counsel, and make sound decisions. Faith is not an excuse for laziness or carelessness. Proverbs 3:5–6 teaches us to trust in the LORD with all our heart and acknowledge Him in all our ways. This includes our relationships, finances, ministry, work, and personal decisions.

Sometimes, what we see may contradict what we believe God has promised. The situation may appear hopeless, and fear may suggest that nothing will change. At such moments, we must remember that God’s faithfulness is not determined by the appearance of our circumstances. His timing may differ from ours, and His methods may surprise us, but we can continue to trust Him without demanding that He explain every detail.

Faith also requires patience. We must resist the temptation to force outcomes simply because waiting is uncomfortable. Not every open door is from God, and not every delay means rejection. We need spiritual discernment to distinguish between an opportunity that should be embraced and a distraction that should be avoided. The Word of God remains our dependable guide.

Furthermore, walking by faith involves fixing our attention on Christ. Hebrews 12:2 calls us to look unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. When we focus exclusively on our difficulties, fear may become overwhelming. But when we remember Christ’s sacrifice, resurrection, promises, and presence, our hearts receive strength to continue. We may still experience uncertainty, but uncertainty does not have to control us.

Dear reader, you may be facing a situation today that you do not fully understand. You may be waiting for an answer, seeking direction, or wondering how a particular challenge will be resolved. Do not allow what you see today to destroy your confidence in God. Take the next faithful step. Continue praying, obeying His Word, and doing what is right. You do not need to see the entire journey before you can trust the One who leads you.

Walking by faith is not a one-time decision; it is a daily commitment to depend on God. As you begin this new day, choose faith over fear, obedience over doubt, and trust over despair. Your vision may be limited, but God’s wisdom is not. Keep walking with Him, knowing that He is worthy of your confidence.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

You may not see the whole road ahead, but you can trust the One who leads you. What step of faith is God asking you to take today?
