Moving From Where You Are To Where You Ought To Be

There are lots of people who wish to improve their lives but take no step. They keep wishing until they have no more time to do anything. I hope your decision to change your life doesn’t end on mere wishful thinking.

Be aware that no one can change anything if they can’t change their minds and do the work it entails. So one thing you must accept if you desire to take your life to the next level is to be ready to change and do the work.

You must be prepared to embrace and accept change. And mind you, the beginning is the toughest. But it gets easier in the long run if you don’t give up.

Changes are not always drastic, but they add up. Small changes add up to big ones, and the more you make these small changes, the better your life will be. So to improve your life, you must start small and be consistent with it.

Looking for a quick shortcut only leads to merry-go-rounding a circle. Shortcuts won’t take you anywhere but worsen the situation. However, an excellent result is sure if you’re ready to do it properly. Of course, changes won’t be evident at the beginning, but it doesn’t mean you’re not making impart. So what do you need to do to move from where you are to where you want to be?

You Need To Ponder

To ponder in this context is to contemplate or meditate. Hence, you must quietly and frankly challenge yourself; what do you want, and where are you going? What do you want to achieve, and how do you get there? How did you arrive at the place you are now? Is it by your making, or has someone orchestrated it? At times, these questions will come to mind spontaneously, and at other times, you need to ask yourself the questions.

Self-awareness is the number one way to positive change. A Yoruba adage says:

“When a crazy realizes he’s sick, he starts getting well.”

Therefore, you need to ponder about where you are, where you’re going, and how you will get there. People call this vision or dream, but you must ponder it. Many, if not most people, have the vision, but they do not make time to think before setting out.

The problem we have is not vision and dreams. We all have visions and dreams, but the problem is few people create time for meditation. So, do you want to have your life change for the better? Then, it is time to get your mind busy through critical thinking.

Don’t Wait For Motivation

Many people wait for motivation to start something and improve themselves. Yes, motivation is great, but it doesn’t last long. For instance, if your friend or something motivates you to start something. But none of them will always be there to encourage you. So the question is, is the vision worth pursuing, and what significant change will it bring to you and several others? That’s the strongest motivation you’ll always have.

Discipline

The power of discipline cannot be overemphasized, and that’s what you need instead of waiting for motivation. There are several benefits of practicing self-discipline. It will help you organize your thoughts and determine what you want to achieve in every area of your life. Practicing self-discipline will also help you improve your self-confidence and open up more doors. For instance, discipline prevents you from waiting till you feel good before acting. It makes you see your tasks as things you must do whether you feel like doing them or not.

Similarly, practicing self-discipline is a good habit for achieving your set goals. It will help you stay on track and avoid procrastination. By practicing self-discipline, you can stay calm and focused on your goals. You will also feel less stressed, but be in charge of your feelings.

Developing A New Habit and Skill

Take a look at yourself. You’ll see habits that need improvement and new ones to learn. Take, for example, you are easily provoked or addicted. That’s where you’ll begin self-improvement if you hope to see a new you later; developing a new habit will boost your self-esteem. Of course, this also involves learning a new skill to help you provide or sell value to people. But developing a good habit should be a paramount pursuit because having skill without character is a trap for your progress.

However, this requires patience and continuous effort. To be sincere, developing a new habit can take time and be very difficult. It takes a lot of persistence, and you may fail severally, feel guilty, and give up. But I assure you it’s all part of the learning process. Don’t give up!

Avoid Being Negative.

A positive self-image is a key to living a happy and healthy life. Research shows that optimistic people can solve problems and make better decisions, take more risks, assert themselves, and strive to meet personal goals. It is called faith in Christianity and becomes more potent when linked to God.

Do Not Underestimate The Power Higher Than You

Never underestimate the power of God to change a person’s life for the best. I know teaching about God has multiple views. Whichever view you share, you need Him to effect a positive change in your life.

However, from my experience, I’m talking about the Almighty God in Christ Jesus. He changed my life. He took me from the miry clay and set me upon the rock. I used to be a hopeless person before meeting Him, but after meeting Him and giving Him a chance, I was never the same till today. You will never understand my testimony until you give Him a chance.

To complement the power of God, payer is a potent way to improve your life. It is evidence of faith that great things can happen to you and through you, despite the apparent challenges. So engage the spiritual warfare through prayer, and you’ll see how God can change the worst situation for the best.

However, prayer is not magic but a way of demonstrating faith, and it does not exclude you from taking other necessary steps. However, combining those steps mentioned above with prayer will make you extraordinarily powerful in effecting change in your life and others.

Conclusion

It has been shown that being grateful for what you have helps you live a better life. According to Psychology Today, a recent study found that people who feel more grateful have less pain and are more likely to take care of their life, enjoy the moment and live longer.

Therefore, be thankful for what you have because there are people who are worst than you. If you have the opportunity to read this, then you’re far better of than some. Many don’t even have access to basic needs as you do, so be thankful.

Finally, see beyond now into a better future. Keep seeing where you’re going because this act will keep you awake when it feels like giving up. I wish you the best in your good endeavors, and may you reach your goals in Jesus’ name. Peace.
