BE STEADFAST AND UNMOVABLE.

In 1952, in London, a young woman named Florence Chadwick set out to swim across the English Channel. Halfway through, thick fog set in, and though she was physically capable, she lost sight of the shore and became discouraged. She eventually stopped and was pulled out of the water—only to discover she was less than a mile from land. Two months later, she returned to the same waters. This time, despite the same dense fog, she kept a mental image of the shoreline in her mind. Drawing strength from that vision and an unyielding determination, she completed the swim successfully. Her story is a powerful picture of faith—holding firmly to what you cannot see, refusing to give up, and remaining steadfast until the promise is reached.

Scripture calls believers to this same unwavering posture. In 1 Corinthians 15:58, we are exhorted to be “steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord.” This instruction comes after the powerful declaration of Christ’s victory over death, reminding us that our labor in God is not in vain. To be steadfast means to be firmly grounded, rooted in truth, and not easily shaken by circumstances. It is a call to consistency in faith, obedience, and devotion, regardless of what we face.

Life will inevitably present challenges that test our resolve. Trials, delays, disappointments, and opposition can make even the strongest believer feel like wavering. Yet, James 1:12 assures us that the one who endures temptation is blessed, for he will receive the crown of life. Being unmovable does not mean we will not feel pressure; it means we refuse to be displaced by it. Like a tree planted by the waters (Psalm 1:3), our strength comes from remaining connected to God, drawing daily from His Word and Spirit.

Moreover, steadfastness is sustained by vision and hope. Hebrews 12:2 encourages us to fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. When our focus is right, our endurance is strengthened. Many lose their ground not because the battle is too fierce, but because their gaze shifts from God’s promise to present difficulties. Staying unmovable requires a deliberate choice to trust God’s faithfulness, even when outcomes are not immediately visible.

Therefore, let your heart be settled and your spirit anchored. Galatians 6:9 reminds us not to grow weary in doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. Your consistency in prayer, your faithfulness in service, and your commitment to righteousness are not wasted efforts. Stand firm. Hold your ground. For in God’s divine timing, your steadfastness will yield a harvest of glory, testimony, and eternal reward.
