The easiest way to make people understand the gospel is by making its presentation simple because people will obey what they understand, but they will ignore it if they do not understand. This explains a major reason for disobedience.
He Came In Our Likeness
God did not come in His Almightiness, but He became like us so we can understand Him. If He had come in His Almightiness, no one would be bold enough to stand before Him. But He made Himself to be like one of us and simply present the gospel to the world. The disciples testified they could understand what He taught them in John 16:29-30. Therefore, the simplest way to access a man’s heart is by simply presenting the gospel because people will obey what they understand.
Our Focus
Thus, the focus should not be how sound or powerful, I’m afraid, our theology is, but how simple we can present it. Yes, we must pray for His unction to preach His word, but it is more pertinent to pray that God should give us both power and wisdom to present His gospel in such a simple way that people will understand. Power, in this context, gives the divine ability and arouse people’s interest, but wisdom teaches how to make people understand, this will then persuade or prompt obedience.
God’s Wisdom
By wisdom, I am not talking about the wisdom of this world. Because the word we preach is not the wisdom of this world but a demonstration of Spirit and power (2Cor.2:4). However, wisdom is principal (Proverbs 4:7) if we desire understanding and obedience from God’s people. Jesus does not depict only the power of God, but He is both the power and the wisdom of God.
Paul’s Exhortation
Paul the Apostle talks about the necessity of dividing the word of truth rightly in 2Timothy 2:15. Therefore, as we perform our sacerdotal duty and approach God’s people to preach the gospel of grace, let us know that we need His power to make the word potent, we need His wisdom to make it simple. By these, the assurance that people will understand and obey will be high. May the good Lord shower His blessings on the seeds we plant in His people’s hearts. Shalom.
