TRUSTING GOD’S TIMING: NOVEMBER 5, 2026 DEVOTIONAL

BIBLE TEXT: ECCLESIASTES 3:1–8 (KJV)

1 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:

2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;

3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;

4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

5 A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;

6 A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;

7 A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;

8 A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

EXHORTATION

KEY VERSE:

“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:” — Ecclesiastes 3:1 (KJV)

Welcome to November 5, 2026, another day of God’s grace and faithfulness. Yesterday, we considered “Faith That Overcomes Fear,” learning that confidence in God enables us to face uncertainty courageously. Today, we are reminded that faith also requires patience. It is one thing to believe God can do something; it is another to trust Him when He does not do it according to our preferred schedule.

George Müller, a Christian evangelist and director of orphanages in Bristol, England, became widely known for his commitment to prayer and dependence on God. In the nineteenth century, he cared for thousands of orphaned children and trusted God to provide for their needs. His work involved practical challenges, daily responsibilities, and seasons of waiting. His life illustrates the importance of continuing faithfully in God’s work without allowing immediate circumstances to determine one’s confidence in Him.

One of the greatest challenges in the Christian life is waiting for God’s timing. We often know what we desire, and sometimes we believe we understand what God has promised. Yet, the fulfilment may appear delayed. We pray for healing, provision, promotion, restoration, direction, or a breakthrough, but the answer does not come when we expect it. During such seasons, impatience can become a serious spiritual struggle.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 reminds us that everything has its season and appointed time. God is not confused about the timing of our lives. He understands the circumstances we cannot see, the consequences we cannot anticipate, and the preparation we may not recognise. While we are concerned about the destination, God is also concerned about what we become along the journey.

Consider Joseph. He received dreams concerning his future, but his journey to their fulfilment included betrayal by his brothers, slavery in Egypt, false accusation, and imprisonment. Joseph could have concluded that God had forgotten him. Yet, years later, he became a ruler in Egypt and was positioned to preserve many lives during famine. Genesis 50:20 reveals his understanding of God’s providence: what others intended for evil, God turned towards good. Joseph’s experience reminds us that God’s timing may involve a process that we do not fully understand.

Waiting does not necessarily mean that God has rejected us. Sometimes, the waiting season is a time of preparation. David was anointed king before he occupied the throne. Between the anointing and the fulfilment, he faced danger, opposition, and uncertainty. God was not merely preparing a position for David; He was also shaping the man who would occupy it.

However, trusting God’s timing does not mean becoming passive or neglecting our responsibilities. We must continue to pray, work, learn, serve, and obey. If we are waiting for employment, we should continue seeking opportunities and developing our skills. If we are praying for a stronger marriage, we should also practise love, patience, forgiveness, and communication. If we desire spiritual growth, we must remain committed to Scripture, prayer, and fellowship. Faithful waiting involves active obedience.

One danger of impatience is the temptation to force an outcome. When we become tired of waiting, we may make decisions that contradict God’s Word or compromise our values. We may pursue shortcuts, manipulate circumstances, or abandon what we know is right. Yet, an opportunity that arrives before us is not automatically God’s approval. We need wisdom and discernment to recognise the difference between God’s direction and our own impatience.

It is also important to remember that trusting God does not mean every desire will be fulfilled exactly as we imagine. God’s timing is connected to His wisdom and will, not simply to our personal preferences. Sometimes He answers differently; sometimes He redirects us; and sometimes He gives us grace to endure what we hoped would change. Our confidence rests not in receiving everything we want, but in knowing that God remains faithful and good.

Dear reader, perhaps you have been waiting for something for a long time. You may feel discouraged because others seem to be progressing while your own situation remains unchanged. Do not measure God’s faithfulness by comparing your journey with someone else’s. Your life is not a competition, and another person’s season does not determine yours.

Continue to trust the Lord. Keep doing what is right. Do not allow delay to make you bitter, careless, or disobedient. God sees your tears, hears your prayers, and knows your needs. His wisdom is perfect, even when His timing is difficult to understand.

As you go through today, remember that waiting on God is not wasted time when it is accompanied by faith, obedience, and spiritual growth. The God who knows your beginning also knows your future. Let Him lead you, strengthen you, and teach you to rest in His wisdom. Trust His timing, because He is never too early, never too late, and never mistaken.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Waiting on God is not wasted time when you continue to trust, grow, and obey Him. Can you trust His timing even when it differs from yours?
